A: Many touch screen car stereos require you to connect your phone to the system and download an app in order to use GPS navigation on the display.
I know the point will be lost on you, but the fact of the matter remains: headlamp development for each car costs millions, and it’s not because of the strippers and blow.
Modern vehicle wiring is complex. If even one thing goes wrong, a litany of problems could crop up, some of which might affect the vehicle’s overall safety. For Mazda, its latest recall focuses on connectors that might do weird things with the electrical system.
Dave Steele’s Holden HQ LS Monaro might look flawless, but it’s just as much a street beast as it is a show winner
I put headlight relays on my Suzuki Bandit, which has notoriously evil lighting, and when I switched high/low, there was enough voltage across the coils to fire off both turn signals at once. A snubber diode will cure that. The relays, plus some Bosch projectors and heavier wiring (stock wiring was laughable) has given me impeccable night vision now. I tried to band aid it with a HID system and all I got was a crap beam. The silvering was off of the low beam reflector, so no amount of HID jiggery-pokery was going to fix it. The high beam reflector was another matter as it lit up the night like a damn klieg light.
In hindsight, it seems strange that most Corvette buyers in the early-’70s did not choose the stereo option. Perhaps the sound of the engine was far more enticing back then. It wasn’t until 1974 that the stereo radio out-sold the standard radio. In 1977, Corvette finally offered a radio option with an eight-track player. But by then many car owners were realizing the benefits of the next aftermarket audio advance: the cassette player. Cassettes were about one third the size of eight-track tapes and had a number of advantages, including much better durability. In 1979, Corvette buyers could choose from radios with either eight-track or cassette players. The previous year, CB radios were also added to the options list, providing quite a number of audio choices for several years.
While there are inevitable similarities in their proportions, itâs important to note that the Palisade and Telluride were designed, inside and out, by entirely independent studios. Think of it as two sculptors starting with identical chunks of marble but with completely different artistic visions.
Although the guitar is mostly original, for some reason, the neck-pickup cover is the wrong way around and the bridge-pickup tone knob has been replaced. It’s pretty obvious, because it’s a different colour and size to the others and it won’t push down onto the control pot.
The current “blu bulbs” or the guy who runs around with an LED strip on, are just a public nuisance. Now, I get it…I’ve had bad lights on cars. The nonsense 9004 bulb comes to mind, but even that was good in the Volvo 240, which had a huge lamp to aim it….although most interations were horrid. Luckily, that bulb appears to have died out, finally.
Things do get complicated upgrading the amplifier and speakers. In our installation, we bypassed the factory-installed Infinity Gold six-channel amplifier mounted under the passenger rear seat. That amplifier powered 6×9 woofer-midrange speakers mounted in each front door and separate tweeters at each corner of the top of the dash, each individually powered. Two more full-range speakers are mounted in each rear door, powered by the factory-installed Infinity amplifier. The new setup will replace the six-channel Infinity Gold amplifier with a traditional four-channel Infinity Kappa Four 4×100-watt amplifier ($400). The front two channels of the replacement amplifier will power an Infinity Reference 9630CX two-way component set ($250), featuring a 6×9 woofer-midrange for each door, a 1-inch tweeter for the top of each side of the instrument panel, and frequencies divided by the included passive crossover instead of each speaker being individually amplified.
I would honestly just match up the factory one if you’re otherwise happy with it. There are resellers on places like Ebay that rebuild this stuff. Or just cross your fingers on a used one.
