Good guide. Did a similar (simpler) upgrade to my 2011 Ford Mustang V6. Did not upgrade the head unit because the adapters are expensive. Adapter and deck would have doubled the cost of the project (at least). I used a PAC line-output converter to hook up a 5-channel Pioneer amp to new front & rear speakers and a sub in the trunk. Done for just under $1000 and some sweat. I would have done it sooner if I had found a guide like this. Thank you.

The wiring was particularly impressive. We watched the harnesses being dressed, but also the organization and care they used. Factory-quality tape grouped the cabling and made everything look professional. While cable harnesses can be ordered to link up any car audio receiver to any vehicle, custom installers take a more active approach. We watched as Dean cut and resoldered the harness so that it functioned exactly as he wanted.

Alpine is my default for speakers, subs, and amps these days. Has been for a long time now. I’ve never been fond of their head units. They’ve always sounded good and looked good, but reliability was poor in the CD player days, and the one my buddy recently installed has no dimmer for the big, bright screen at night.

Now come those other reasons I mentioned for avoiding overwattage bulbs. For one, their lifespan is very short even at carefully-controlled voltage. But let’s say you really don’t care about bulb life; you’re happy to carry around a case of spare bulbs and change them every 10 days as long as you can see. But overwattage bulbs won’t help you see better — not really, it’ll only feel that way. High-watt filaments are bigger than lower-watt filaments, and a bigger filament has a strongly negative effect on beam focus, so effective seeing distance plummets. At the same time, the big increase in foreground light destroys your distance vision; the overlit foreground causes your pupils to constrict and drags your gaze downward, so you can clearly see all the things close to the car (at realistic road speeds you’re going to hit ’em no matter how brightly lit they are), but you can’t see the important stuff further down the road. Double-whammy, too; the bright foreground creates the false feeling that you have excellent lighting — we humans are very poor judges of our visual performance; our vision just doesn’t work the way it feels like it does, so it’s very easy to create situations where we think/feel we can see much better (or much worse) than we actually can, and while foreground light is the top correlate with subjective impressions of headlight performance, it’s really very far down the list of safety performance factors in a headlamp’s light distribution. Down-the-road distance light is much more important.

Time to admit a little bit of bias on my part. When I cracked the plastic on Renegade, the fourth album by Louisiana-born singer-songwriter Dylan LeBlanc, I didn’t have high hopes for it. From the title of the album to song titles like “Bang Bang Bang and “Lone Rider” to the moody album cover, I was convinced that I was about to suffer through another album of gruff Americana with whiskey and hell raisin’ on the brain. What I wasn’t expecting was LeBlanc’s pealing vocal style that is just to the right of Jimmie Dale Gilmore and a sound that, while owing a lot to the folk and country idioms, dealt in more pop-driven influences and lyrics that plumbs LeBlanc’s romantic yearnings, moments of self-reflection, and spiritual yearnings. It has the effect of a warm beverage and warmer conversation in the wee small hours. Those times when we reveal so much to those closest to us and, through it, get even closer to them, physically and emotionally.

Dear Lennard, I live in Florida, which is touted as the lightning capital of the U.S. Very recently a motorcyclist was struck in his helmet by a bolt of lightning while riding down the highway. In the pictures of the helmet you can see the holes that the lightning blasted through his helmet. It is unclear if the lightning bolt or the resulting crash was the cause of his death, but the circumstances of this crash are different than the scenarios you mentioned. It is also worth noting that this crash occurred on a clear day, so this was in fact a bolt out of the blue. A link to an article with further details is attached.
